My dear friends, if we deliberately continue to sin after we’ve received knowledge of the truth, there’s no longer any sacrifice left to cover these sins – only the terrible expectation of God’s judgment and the raging fire consumes his enemies.

For anyone who rejected the law of Moses was put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severe do you think the punishment will be for those who trample on the Son of God, treat the blood of the covenant which cleansed them as something unclean, and insult his Spirit of mercy? For we know the one who said, “It’s for me to avenge. I will repay.” He also said, “The Lord will judge his people.” But it’s a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Remember those early days when you first received the light. You remained faithful in spite of terrible suffering. Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution. At other times you stood side by side with those who were experiencing the same things. You suffered along with those who were thrown into jail. And when everything you owned was taken from you, you accepted it with joy because you knew that you had better and more lasting possessions.

Don’t lose your confidence, because it will be well rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you’ve done God’s will, you’ll receive everything he’s promised.

Because “in just a little while, he whom we expect will come and won’t be slow.”

And “the just shall by faith. But if anyone turns away from me, I take no pleasure in him.”

But we don’t stand with those who turn away from God to their destruction. We stand with those who have faith and are saved.
