A life of love

Follow God’s example in everything you do, because you are his dearly loved children. Live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and offered himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

But there must be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you, because such sins have no place among God’s people. Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes are unbecoming for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person (for a greedy person is an idolater) will inherit the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with their vain excuses, for it is because of such things that the wrath of God will fall on those who are disobedient. Therefore, don’t participate in the things these people do.

For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light. (And light produces goodness, honesty and integrity.)

Find out what pleases the Lord and do it, but take no part in the unproductive activities of darkness. Instead, let your light expose them, for it is shameful even to talk about the things that the disobedient do in secret. But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them,  for the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said, “Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”

So be very careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but as people who are intelligent. Make the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, don’t act thoughtlessly, but find out exactly what the Lord wants you to do.

Don’t get drunk on wine, because that only leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves. Make music to the Lord in your hearts, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul
